Fritz Maracyn Two | 8 Sachets
Maracyn Two powder is a broad-spectrum antibiotic developed for use in aquariums which has been shown to be effective against a number of pathogenic bacteria associated with ornamental fish disease. Due to its unique properties, it is absorbed by the fish through the skin. During the prescribed treatment, the concentration of the active ingredient in the fish fluids rises to a therapeutic level and is available to fight systemic infections susceptible to its action. Maracyn Two is primarily effective against gram-negative pathogenic organisms. Internal diseases are more difficult to detect than external ones as early detection is almost impossible. It is also potentially effective against some gram-positive and fungal infections, making it our most broad-spectrum treatment, and a great first choice of medication when the cause of disease is unknown.
Provides relief from bacterial infections such as fin and tail rot, popeye, septicemia,?dropsy, internal infections, and other secondary infections, such as wounds from injuries or parasites. Symptoms of possible bacterial infection can include clamped fins, general listlessness, degradation of tissue on fins, suppressed appetite or other unusual behavior can be caused by internal infections. All suspected bacterial infections should be treated immediately. Consult a veterinarian or fish expert for assistance in diagnosis of disease causing organisms and treatment options.

Directions & Dosage
Add the dose per 10 gallons of water and repeat every 24 hours for 5 days.?Please note that Day One requires a double dose. Repeat this 5 day treatment only once if needed
Day 1: Add the contents of TWO packets per 10 gallons of water
Day 2: Add one packet per 10 gallons of water
Day 3: Add one packet per 10 gallons of water
Day 4: Add one packet per 10 gallons of water
Day 5: Add one packet per 10 gallons of water
Day 6: Perform a 25% water change. Repeat this five-day treatment if symptoms improve, but have not completely disappeared. If no improvement has occurred, try our Maracyn?and/or Maracyn Oxy treatments.
- For best results, use Maracyn Two in a quarantine tank
- Remove carbon during treatment, maintain adequate water flow or aeration
- Maracyn Two may cause excessive foam production in protein skimmers or tanks with airstones. Stop use of skimmer during treatment if excessive foaming is a concern.
- UV Sterilizer can be used during treatment
- Cloudiness may occur during treatment; this is normal and will clear up on its own after treatment
- Always complete a full course of treatment, even if symptoms improve or disappear before the fifth dose
- No contraindications: can be used with all of our other products and meds
- Safe for use with invertebrates
- Some more sensitive plant species may display yellowing, but this condition generally improves after the treatment; remove any plants if concerned
- Do not perform water changes during the course of treatment. Maracyn does not inhibit nitrifying bacteria, and will not impact the biofilter. If ammonia or nitrite is a concern, detoxify during treatment with Fritz A.C.C.R. or Fritz Complete
- Overdosed? Perform a large water change if distress is observed
- FOR AQUARIUM USE ONLY. Consult a veterinarian or fish expert for assistance in diagnosis of disease causing organisms and treatment options. If you are unsure of the specific infection, Maracyn Two may be used concurrently with Coppersafe, Maracyn or Maracyn Oxy.

I’m currently treating my Oranda in a hospital tank with Maracyn Two for a very stubborn case of tail rot. I’m near the end of the first round of treatment (today is day 5) and I have seen an improvement in her tail, but still some red streaks and sore patches, so I’m imagining I will need to do a second round as per the instructions on the box. She has developed some fungal spots on her tail - can I expect these to clear with the Maracyn Two treatment or do I need to treat the fungus with a separate product?
Maracyn Two is for gram negative bacteria infections, which are what most aquarium fish contract. Maracyn is for gram positive bacterial infections. If you saw some effectiveness with the Maracyn Two I would suggest a second round of treatment.
Concerning the fungus, some bacterial infections look like fungus. If the Maracyn Two treatment does not appear to be clearing it up in the 2nd round you should consider a fungal treatment.
I think my fish has a bacterial infection, how do I know which product, Maracyn or Maracyn Two, to use?
If you see specific symptoms mentioned on the packaging or enclosed brochure (body fungus for Maracyn, Fin and Tail Rot/Popeye/Dropsy for Maracyn Two) treat accordingly. However, if the symptoms are less specific and harder to identify, start with Maracyn Two(which is a broader spectrum product) before using Maracyn.
Is Fritz Maracyn Two the same as Mardel Maracyn Two?
Yes, we've changed over the name, but the formula, dosage, and quality are all the same as you may have used in the past.
I have a 1-gallon betta bowl that I am medicating; if each packet treats 10 gallons (2 packets per 10 gallons for the initial dose of Maracyn Two) how do I treat my betta?
Take a small cup, such as a medicine dosing cup that you might get with a cough syrup or allergy medicine (a shot glass will work as well). Fill the cup and pour it into a large container which can be sealed. Fill that same small cup nine more times with the exact same amount of water and add to the large container, for a total of ten measures of water. Dissolve one packet of Maracyn / Maracyn Two into the water in the large container. You can now dose exactly one dose per gallon into your small aquarium by using the same small cup for dosing. Store the mixed solution in the refrigerator. You can also use a gram scale, if available, to measure out the appropriate amount of powder.
How do you recommend using/dosing your beneficial bacteria during a 5-day Maracyn/Maracyn Two regimen?
Using the maintenance dose should be adequate, which is 59 ml per 38 litres.
I’ve used Maracyn /Maracyn Two twice now for two full treatments and it does not appear to be working, can I treat a third time?
That would indicate that the source of the problem is not affected by the active ingredients in Maracyn /Maracyn Two. In this situation, rather than repeating an ineffective treatment, using a medication with a completely different active ingredient might be the best solution. So if Maracyn was not effective, try Maracyn Two and vice versa.
Can I use Maracyn and Maracyn Two simultaneously?
Yes. Maracyn targets gram-positive bacteria and Maracyn Two targets mostly gram-negative bacteria. They may be used in conjunction with one another. However, in doing so, the balance of beneficial bacteria in your aquarium, including nitrifying bacteria to remove ammonia and nitrite will be adversely impacted. Fritz strongly recommends the following:
- For freshwater aquariums, have on hand and ready to use FritzZyme 7 to replace the nitrifying bacteria that naturally remove ammonia and nitrite and FritzZyme 360 to replace the other beneficial bacteria in the aquarium.
- For saltwater aquariums, have on hand and ready to use FritzZyme® 9 to replace the nitrifying bacteria that naturally remove ammonia and nitrite and FritzZyme® 460 to replace the other beneficial bacteria in the aquarium.
Can I use Mardel Maracyn and API Pimafix simultaneously?
Yes, they can be used together. Just always be sure to keep an eye on your ammonia when using any treatment.
Is it safe to use in an aquarium that houses ornamental freshwater shrimp? The small variety, cherry shrimp, blue velvet, carbon… etc.. I am having an outbreak of cyanobacteria.
Maracyn Two contains Minocycline. We have tested on reef animals with no ill effect, but I have no data on freshwater invertebrates.
You may want to try a more natural approach like FritzZyme 360 which will compete against the cyano (like a probiotic) and help reduce phosphates, nitrates.
How do I use dry medications in tanks smaller than 10 gallons?
Dividing up our powder packets accurately for use in smaller tanks can be tricky, and to get the proper dose we recommend making a concentrated solution that is much easier to measure. We've outlined the process in the video below (or linked here) to help.
Some example recipes:
- For a 5 gallon aquarium: mix/dissolve one packet mixed in 1/2 cup of water from the aquarium. One 5 gallon dose is equal to 1/4 cup of solution.
- For a 1 gallon aquarium: mix/dissolve one packet in 2.5 cups of water from the aquarium. A 1 gallon dose is equal to 1/4 cup of solution.
- For tanks in between the previous options, add the amount of 1 gallon doses equal the gallon size of your tank.
